Associate Manger, Animal Care – Animal Shelter

Purpose of Position: Assist in the oversight of the Animal Care department, providing care to animals sheltered by the Dumb Friends League. Support the Manager of Animal Care to develop a compassionate, efficient, resilient, adaptive, and high functioning animal care team.
Responsibilities
- With the Manager, Animal Care, manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee care and treatment of shelter animals to ensure proper care and services are provided, and processes are smooth and efficient.
- Oversee department’s animal enrichment program.
- Ensure internal patron experiences with animal care reflect the League’s brand and core value, compassion always.
- Schedule staff and review productivity to best align people resources. Work with Team Leaders to create daily work plans ensuring maximum efficiency while maintaining high standards of animal care.
- Train staff and volunteers and assist with the creation of training plans and ongoing evaluation.
- Manage external vendors to provide services as needed.
- Inform budget and ensure expenditures stay within the operating budget.
- Serve as a safety officer for the department, responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance with OSHA, PACFA, and other applicable state and local agencies.
- Manage supply and product inventory and ordering.
- Oversee upkeep and maintenance of shelter equipment in use within department.
- Assist with the development of SOPs to ensure that they are current and communicated to and followed by staff and volunteers.
- Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
- Manage department resources to maximize value, control expenses and minimize waste.
- Perform euthanasia and related tasks.
- Regularly perform shelter opening and closing duties as needed.
- Represent the organization internally and externally with integrity, serving as an ambassador of the League’s mission and brand.

Compensation: $56,610.00 – $61,000.00 annually (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
Performs work primarily in an office setting. Potentially prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive motion. May work in an area with high noise level. Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation.

Day Therapist New Vistas CSU
The New Vistas Therapist‘s purpose is to provide individual, family, and group therapy to children/youth who are admitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit. This includes conducting initial assessments, directing clinical services, and assisting with case management and disposition planning for children/youth. This position is three, 12-hour shifts per week.
New Vistas’ mission is to use an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, residential counselors, medical staff and admissions staff to provide brief, 3-5 day, crisis stabilization treatment for children and youth with behavioral health issues, including depression, suicidal thoughts, other trauma reactions, and family issues. Our team coordinates treatment and provides tools and safety planning for children/youth and families so that they can safely return to their homes and the community. We are committed to serving Colorado’s children/youth while maintaining a non-judgmental and inclusive approach.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets with all assigned children/youth, conduct clinical interviews and set up initial staffing in order to develop treatment plans for each individual.
- Maintains caseload as assigned by Manager or Program Coordinator by overseeing the implementation and review of all treatment services provided to each child/youth on caseload.
- Primary coordinator for discharge planning and transition of care to community resources for each child/youth on caseload
- Conducts individual, family, and group therapy. Co-facilitate multi-family group with other Therapists. Will maximize medically authorized services with clients and their families in accordance with the treatment plan.
- Works with Case Managers in coordination with the referring agency and/or funding source, community contacts, family, legal system, and other professionals involved in the child/youth’s treatment.
- Maintains timely documentation. This includes but is not limited to admission notes, progress notes, discharge paperwork, and treatment plans.
- Follows all Jefferson Center policies and procedures in order to maintain the highest standards and provide the best level of care to children/youth.
- Operates within scope of his/her respective license and complies with all regulations regarding his/her respective license.
- Complies with managed care standards regarding regular utilization review of all assigned cases in order to meet all licensing requirements for residential treatment of adolescent populations.
- Facilitates transitions to the next level of care by working in conjunction with other members of the treatment team, receiving agency, family members, and all other professionals involved in the planned departure from New Vistas.
- Regularly attends all staffings/rounds to facilitate communication and effective client management.
- Attends mandatory trainings to maintain compliance with training standards and ensure effective treatment.
- Consults with the milieu staff regarding clinical issues by monitoring the delivery of clinical services on the unit, and identifying and assisting in training needs in order to provide clinical direction of the unit.
- Represents New Vistas in communications with referral sources, other professionals, organizations, and programs managing those contacts with diplomacy, respect, dignity, and professional behavior to enhance the program’s mission with regard to the surrounding communities.
- Maintains good communication with treatment team members, Program Coordinator, and Manager in order to receive and provide professional support and pro-active problem-solving strategies.
- Refrains from dual relationships with residents and their families as defined by Jefferson Center’s’ policies in order to maintain professional boundaries.
- Maintains a culturally and socioeconomically sensitive environment for children/youth.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager or Program Coordinator.

Utilization Management Coordinator
Jefferson Center’s Youth Residential Recovery (YRR) mission is to provide intensive substance use disorder treatment in the ASAM Level of Care 3.5 residential treatment setting for Colorado youth ages 13 years of age up to 18.5 years of age.
The Utilization Management Coordinator possesses knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and diagnosis, as well as the ability to articulate those indicators professionally. The UM Coordinator manages medical necessity by evaluating the client medical records to determine the medical necessity concerning the ASAM and determining the appropriateness of level of care. Serves as liaison for clients, referral sources, stakeholders, and insurance companies. Negotiates and advocates for client length of stay and level of care. Oversees utilization review activities to ensure reimbursement for services. The UM Coordinator leads daily treatment team meetings, manages authorizations/reauthorizations and reviews. The UM coordinator must be able to work with the business office and admissions departments to complete preliminary verification of benefits. The UM Coordinator has a working knowledge of all levels of care offered and appropriately manages client benefits.
Essential Duties:
- Manage RAE/insurance/contracts for admissions in cooperation with external stakeholders to ensure all information and processes are completed to support billing, including acquiring pre-authorization and collecting insurance information, including verifying Medicaid Eligibility.
- Provide accurate and detailed billing information in EMR, to include documenting primary and secondary insurance information.
- Ensures compliance with policies, procedures & regulations; maintains quality of records.
- Accurately enter incoming client information into electronic medical record systems.
- Distribute intake information to key individuals.
- Assists in the coordination of Involuntary Commitments and approvals for extended stays, if appropriate.
- Ensure consumers referred to Residential/Inpatient program meet the identified ASAM level of care and that pre-authorizations are approved prior to admission or prior to transfer/discharge to other levels of care.
- Accurately and concisely complete the Census Report for the end of each shift.
- Provide ongoing feedback and information on the status of admissions to clinical team members to coordinate intake and admission efforts.
- Maintain strong customer service including supporting youths and parents who may be in crisis with assistance from other JCMH staff members.
- Is an active team member including assisting in training new staff, advocating for the needs of the team with regard to best serving the clients, and identifying areas for improvement of the admission process.
- Effectively responds to the client/consumer needs and problems, initiates and maintains positive interactions with colleagues and community partners, and exhibits timely response to phone calls, email and other requests.
- Successfully completes all required training in a timely manner & attends key internal meetings as assigned.
- Follow and enforce all Jefferson Centers’ Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, sexual harassment/harassment, dual relationships, physical and sexual abuse reporting, Corporate Compliance and Code of Ethics.

- Participates on various interagency committees as requested by Program Manager

- Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, clinical supervision, and on-line training as required.
- Shares knowledge of recovery-based, stages-of-change, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, trauma informed and culturally competent treatment. Ensure staff adhere to the EBP programing designed to successfully treat individuals with co-occurring disorders.

- Models a trauma-informed approach by having an understanding of how trauma impacts the lives of the people being served to best ensure that every interaction is consistent with the recovery process and reduces the possibility of retraumatization.
- Ensure that delivery practices are guided by the principles of trauma informed care and the principles of addiction treatment.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Under the direction of Extended Stay Shelter Director, our Case Manager provides case management services to victims of domestic violence that include crisis intervention, individual emotional support, advocacy and assist with gaining access to housing. Our Advocates are adept at handling crisis situations and working with diverse populations.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Crisis intervention, screening and assessment services to victims of domestic violence, including intake into our residential services.
- Provides advocacy support as needed; may serve as a liaison between local agencies and clients on an emergency basis.
- Assists with applying for benefits and securing necessary documentation.
- Serves as a resource for housing applications and securing appropriate housing.
- Maintains complete client files, including standard forms and progress notes.
- Interacts with clients and resolves disputes using mediation skills.
- Responsible for proper safety precautions and security procedures.
- Understands trauma informed care and how to use it in crisis situations.
- Develops awareness of community resources available to referral partners.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred, but related work experience will be considered
- A minimum of one-year experience in human services area with experience in counseling and crisis intervention, including a working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.
