Executive Director

 United Way of Mesa County is searching for a highly motivated, experienced, visionary, and imaginative Executive Director. As the leader of United Way of Mesa County (UWMC), you will help unite our community behind fundraising, impact, and volunteerism. You will provide the necessary team leadership, planning, analysis, strategy, and follow-up to achieve UWMC’s fundraising, strategic planning, business, and board goals. You will lead and work with a small team that are collaborative, creative, and driven to improve the lives of all in our community. The ability to work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment is essential.   

Essential Functions:  


Education and/or Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree in human services, management, or related field from an accredited
institution. Minimum 5 years experience in human services or non-profit management and fundraising.
United Way experience preferred. 

General Job Duties and Responsibilities  

Community Impact and Relationship Building 

Develop and implement plans to create impact programming that benefits the community including grant creation, direct impact programs, and community collaborations, and to evaluate the results of those investments. 

· Manage the assessment of community needs and identify appropriate roles for UW in addressing them 

· Investigate direct and in-direct methods for achieving community impact, as appropriate 

· Research and initiate applying for grants to foundations that align with UWMC’s mission. 

Develop appropriate and inclusive partnerships with provider agencies, other community funders and organizations, and the business community to further the mission of the United Way. 

Plan and implement year-round programming of public awareness and information about community needs and the services and programs funded by United Way.  

Strategic Planning & Board Development 

Develop and implement a process by which the United Way establishes the strategic direction of the organization, sets measurable goals and evaluates the results. 

· Work with Board of Directors to schedule annual strategic planning process 

· Provide resources to Board to enhance the planning process (samples, best-practices guidelines, etc.) 

· Provide tools for board’s evaluation of its outcomes/results 

Assure the commitment, development, involvement and continuity of the highest quality of volunteer leadership in achieving the mission and goals of the United Way.  


Business and Financial Management 

Ensure that the business and financial affairs of the United Way are conducted in accordance with all acceptable standards of business and regulatory.  

· Develop (with Board) and monitor annual operating budget 

· Supervise internal accounting procedures  

· Prepare bi-weekly payroll transfers and all payroll related reports 

· Maintain flex benefit and PTO records 

· Provide monthly financial reports to board, noting significant variances to budget 

· Maintain orderly, accurate records 


Staff Management 

Provide staff with the appropriate leadership and training to successfully perform their assigned tasks.  



This position may require employee to work occasional nights and weekends.
