The Center for African American Health is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the Black community to make informed health decisions that benefit the whole person through education, collaboration, and advocacy. Under the supervision of the Director of Program, the Nutrition Education Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering nutrition education programs to diverse audiences, teaching about healthy eating habits, food choices, and the relationship between diet and health.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
• Create nutrition education materials, lesson plans, and presentations based on current dietary
guidelines and audience needs.
• Conduct group cooking classes to teach about nutrition principles, food labeling, meal planning,
and dietary modifications.
• Promote nutrition education programs through presentations, and collaborations with
community organizations.
• Track program effectiveness by monitoring participant progress and evaluating outcomes to
make necessary adjustments.
• Establish and maintain relationships with community members, stakeholders, and organizations.
• Works with sensitive information with discretion to maintain confidentiality and security and
ensure compliance with privacy policies and regulations.
• Ensures that deadlines are met and adapts to changing priorities.
• Presents a positive and professional image for the organization.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to effectively convey nutrition information
to diverse audiences.
• Understand cultural factors that influence food choices and adapting communication styles
accordingly.
• Experience in designing and delivering engaging educational programs
• Knowledge of office software – Office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google
Docs, and SharePoint.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written
reports, letters, presentations, and other media.
• Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, cultural competence, and flexibility.
• Digital literacy and research skills, including the ability to analyze the reliability of information.

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or a related field
