Bi-Lingual Education & Outreach Coordinator
The Bi-Lingual Education & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for organizing, marketing, and administering educational offerings and community outreach activities Arapahoe, Douglas & Elbert Counties (excluding the city of Aurora), with a particular focus on engaging and supporting the Spanish-speaking population.
Qualifications:
- Native or fluent Spanish speaker with cultural competency.
- Proficient operation of appropriate software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client, staff and office information.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn services available through The Arc Arapahoe, Douglas & Elbert Counties.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn resources available to children and adults with disabilities and their families in Colorado and Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert Counties.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong bilingual communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
- Ability to work effectively with people from various cultures in highly charged emotional situations.
- Courteous and empathetic phone manner.
- Experience working with/for people with disabilities.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.
Responsibilities
Education:
- Plan, develop, manage, present, and evaluate all educational offerings for parents, self-advocates, professionals, and other community members.
- Designs, develops, and produces training information materials.
- Stay current with IDD systems knowledge.
- Focus on increasing self-advocacy skills.
- Support Individual Advocacy – especially for Spanish only speakers
Community Outreach:
- Represent our organization at relevant committees, task forces, support groups and other community activities.
- Coordinate resource fairs and public speaking engagements and presentations.
- Networks, maintains, and expands partnerships with other community organizations.
- Solicit staff support as needed.
Social Events:
- Plan and host monthly social offerings.
- Play a key role in execution of core events. These included but are not limited to the Annual Meeting, Annual Cookout, Fall seasonal event and Membership renewal.
Marketing and Publication:
- Develop and maintain brochures and written materials in both English and Spanish.
- Publicize educational opportunities and outreach activities for parents, self-advocates, professionals, and others in the community.
- Create and send announcements in a timely manner.
Office Administration:
- Answer phones, collect basic information, provide I & R as needed.
- Welcome visitors and assist as needed.
- Contribute to the general maintenance and administration of the office
- Attend team meetings.
- Open honest communication with all team members.
- Attend mandatory events sponsored by The Arc.
