Food Bank Coordinator

 Job Description Summary:  

The Food Bank Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the Sister Carmen Community Center Food Bank. This includes procurement from donors through direct donations and food drives and distribution of food to participant families, as well as daily supervision of food bank volunteers.

Essential Functions:  

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. 

  1. Receives food bank donations which requires weighing and maintenance of receiving log and monthly management reports by pounds  
  2. Oversees daily food bank operations, ensuring volunteers and participants shopping feel welcome, comfortable, and supported 
  3. Holds shift Huddles for all volunteer shifts each day to keep volunteers in the loop 
  4. Collaboratively works with volunteers to build a trusting and respectful food bank environment 
  5. Communicates frequently with food bank advocates to manage shopping floor capacity and flow 
  6. Support Equity, Nutrition & Healthy Living Manager with communication, reporting, and ordering with Community Food Share (Regional Food Bank) 
  7. Collaborates with Volunteer and Outreach Manager to schedule and maintain volunteer food bank workforce 
  8. Trains Volunteer Shift Leads and attends volunteer quarterly meetings 
  9. Attends Weekly food-bank team meetings and communicates volunteer and food-bank needs 
  10. Establishes and maintains an effective inventory system, including TEFAP food, that includes a method to rotate stock and ensure freshness, first-in, first-out 
  11. Maintains temperature logs for all food bank refrigeration 
  12. Ensure food bank is up to date on expiration codes, stale dates and recalls to ensure food bank donations are not expired and remain safe for consumption 
  13. Coordinates with volunteers to prepare and stock food bank shelves 
  14. Ensures that shifts are covered if a volunteer cannot cover their shift 
  15. Greets donors at donation drop-off, offers receipt, and thanks them 
  16. Supervises and trains volunteers in the food bank area. Provides feedback regarding volunteers to the Volunteer and Outreach Manager 
  17. Adheres to and supports Sister Carmen Community Center policies  
  18. Other food bank and intake duties as needed and assigned 
  19. Collaborate with the Facilities/Operations Director to coordinate pickups and deliveries involving the food bank 
  20. Oversees/maintains cleanliness and organization of Food Bank, shopping floor and sorting room 
  21. Attends Safety Committee meetings 
  22. Attends at least 80% of All Staff and In Service meetings. 
  23. Adheres to and upholds safety workplace practices; demonstrates responsible use of SCCC Information Technology equipment and adheres to SCCC IT protocols

  1. A minimum of 1 year, job-related experience in the human services or related field 
  2. High School diploma or GED 
  3. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and multitask 
  4. Flexible, proactive, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment 
  5. Strong computer skills with a willingness to learn new programs and databases 
  6. Desire to perform outreach tasks with willingness to create relationships with many donor organizations 
  7. Bilingual English/Spanish Required  
  8. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with individuals who may not share the same value system or behavior norms 
  9. Must be able to work with a diverse workgroup and serve families with diverse economic, social, racial, linguistic and cultural backgrounds including but not limited to: unhoused, undocumented, refugees etc.

  15. Ability to be extremely collaborative with partners and referring agencies and their staff

  17. Ability to lift between 25 and 75 pounds on a regular basis with team assistance 
  18. Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices (training will be provided) 

Desired Qualifications:  

The following job duties are not required but are desired in candidates who meet minimum qualifications. 

  1. Experience practicing in strengths-based, participant-centered modality 
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services related field or nutrition 
  3. Experience working with a Family Resource Center Model 
  4. Strong skills with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, Google Suite 
  5. Food bank or warehouse management experience 

Physical Requirements:   

Frequent to constant moving, May need to remain in a stationary position frequently, sitting. Ability to move 50 pounds; for
heavier weight items seek assistance of other team members; ability to use forklift. Early evening availability required, occasional weekends for special projects or events.
