Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator
Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence is seeking a dynamic
team member to work closely with other SPAN staff in our quest to end
interpersonal violence in the community. The ideal candidate will play a
crucial role in enhancing our community engagement efforts, fostering
relationships with volunteers, and promoting our initiatives throughout the
community. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication
abilities, and a commitment to social justice principles.
The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing training
programs, managing volunteer activities, and representing our organization at
public events. They work closely with SPAN program staff to coordinate the
recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers. They are responsible for
leading the development and implementation of SPAN’s internal and
community-facing training. The Coordinator provides expertise in facilitating
dynamic learning opportunities as well as effective outreach to the
community.
A Day in the Life:
- Coordinate quarterly training for new staff, volunteers, and interns. Collaborate with program staff who provide training content; facilitate training modules as appropriate.
- Synthesize volunteer and intern needs into clearly delineated roles; create and disseminate outreach material.
- Build and maintain key community partnerships to help generate volunteer and intern pool. Focus specifically on recruiting bilingual volunteers to fill gaps in service for monolingual Spanish speaking clients.
- Screen potential volunteers and interns to evaluate their interest and suitability, clarify expectations, and make placement recommendations to program staff.
- Support program staff with onboarding, supporting, and evaluating volunteers, as well as record keeping.
- Plan volunteer appreciation events and activities to aid in volunteer retention.
- Conduct evaluation and implement best practices for training program.
- Maintain staff meeting schedule, including in-services with community partners and wellness activities for all staff.
- Work with Development team to coordinate volunteer projects with local companies, organizations, and donors.
- Coordinate SPAN participation in booths/tables at community events. Recruit and prepare volunteers and staff to represent SPAN in the community. Staff booths/events as necessary.
- Provide community training to youth and adults on topics such as Dynamics of Intimate Partner Violence, SPAN Services, Violence Prevention, Healthy Relationships, Anti-Oppression, and more.
