 Rose Community Foundation seeks a Director of Nonprofit Funds and Legacy Giving to oversee, steward and grow Rose Community Foundation’s portfolio of funds held on behalf of and benefiting nonprofits. This position oversees three cohort-based programs and one incentive-based program to promote endowment fund building and
planned giving. This position also oversees the strategy and implementation behind Rose Community Foundation’s own legacy program, the Rose Community Legacy Circle. This position is a member of the Philanthropic Services department and reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Services.
 

Personal Characteristics

The ideal candidate is a relationship builder within the local nonprofit ecosystem, with strong organizational skills and a commitment to the sustainable impact of endowments. They can effectively steward and develop Rose Community Foundation’s different constituencies: prospective and current nonprofit fundholders, as well as potential and existing legacy donors. The candidate understands endowment building, nonprofit fund development, and legacy giving. They are an experienced facilitator and trainer, adept at coaching nonprofit partners, as well as Foundation staff and volunteers, in endowment strategies. Enthusiastic about connecting with external audiences, the candidate can work both collaboratively and individually as an integral member of the philanthropic services team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Endowment Building Pathways

Plan and facilitate engaging training sessions and workshops for the Endowment Building Pathways program, equipping new staff and volunteer leaders with knowledge and strategies in endowment building and planned giving.  

Lead the recruitment, application and acceptance processes, curriculum design, and alumni engagement for the Endowment Building Pathways program. 

Oversee implementation of the Momentum Building Pathway, which includes supporting fundholder organizations’ staff and volunteer leaders, budgeting and reporting,
communications and marketing, and regular collaboration with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s LIFE & LEGACY staff.
  

Serve as coach and mentor for Endowment Building Pathway members and alumni. 

Maintain records, background data and documents in the Foundation’s database system.  

Nonprofit Fund Program

Oversee the Foundation’s endowment and designated fund programs, including securing new funds and stewarding and growing existing ones. 

Collaborate with Foundation colleagues to identify and cultivate prospects for endowment and designated funds. 

Develop and maintain relationships with nonprofit fundholders to ensure the Foundation understands and supports their goals. 

Provide exceptional fund stewardship, including: 

o Maintaining proactive communication and providing timely responses to questions and requests. 

o Offering tailored support and coaching to help fundholders grow their endowment funds. 

o Creating forums for dialogue among fundholders and alumni organizations on topics of interest – integrating capital campaigns with endowment building, board engagement, and trends within specific nonprofit sectors. 

Legacy Giving

Collaborate with the Director of Donor Funds and Gift Planning to develop and implement campaign, marketing, communication, and stewardship plans for prospective and existing legacy donors. 

Ensure accurate and up-to-date records and documentation for Rose Community Legacy Circle. 

Identify and solicit new legacy commitments for the Foundation, focusing on legacy gifts in support of the Foundation’s unrestricted endowment, in collaboration with the Director of Donor Funds and Gift Planning and other team members where appropriate.  

Other Major Responsibilities 

Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices for endowments and other long-term funds; collaborate with the Finance team and Vice President of Philanthropic Services to ensure agreements, guidelines, policies, and Foundation practices related to endowments and designated funds are aligned with industry best practice.  

Maintain awareness of Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) and other regulations affecting endowments and other nonprofit funds. 

Other duties as assigned.  

Supervision

The Director of Nonprofit Funds and Legacy Giving reports to the Vice President of Philanthropic Services and is a member of the Philanthropic Services department. The Director of Nonprofit Funds and Legacy Giving supervises the Nonprofit Funds Advisor. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Required: 

· Seven or more years of relevant work experience. 

· Five or more years of experience at a nonprofit or community foundation 

· Experience developing and building viable nonprofit endowments, including stewarding legacy gifts and/or major gifts 

· Strong understanding of agency/nonprofit fund best practices and the ability to clearly articulate endowment and other fund concepts to others 

· High-level facilitation skills and proven experience leading large group trainings or workshops 

· Understanding of basic investment principles and the ability to explain Foundation investment practices to nonprofit partners 

· Experience developing pipeline and donor stewardship strategies 

· Strong professional discretion and judgment and understanding of confidentiality with respect to donors, fundholders and prospects  

· Highly detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills 

· Proven track record of working effectively across different settings, communities and issues with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and cultures  

· An understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and practices and a commitment to incorporating them into internal and external work  

· Skilled with technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Zoom  

· Valid Driver’s license and proof of COVID-19 vaccinations 1 and 2  

Preferred:

· Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent life and professional experience  

· Understanding of the nonprofit sector in the Greater Denver region 

· Knowledge of the Jewish community in the Greater Denver region 

· Understanding of values-based philanthropy and philanthropic trends 

Salary and Benefits

This full-time, exempt position’s hiring range is $91,800 – 114,750. Offered salary is commensurate with internal equity and salary ranges, local and national sector
benchmarks, and candidate’s relevant qualifications, experience and skills. Workplace

Fully renovated office with a collaborative environment located in a building with a café, gym, secure indoor bike parking, covered employee parking and convenient access to parks and trails. We operate on a structured hybrid model where staff work in the office/community at least three days per week and have the option to work
remotely up to two days per week. Please note that the Foundation expects all team members to be fully vaccinated (including boosters, if eligible) against COVID-19.
