Executive Director – JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Schedule: Part time, 25 hours with the opportunity for full time
Compensation: $33/hour
Ideal Candidate
At Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy (RMRT) we’re searching for a mission driven leader. Our mission is to assist individuals with physical, cognitive and/or emotional challenges to reach their fullest potential through equine-assisted therapies and activities. This is our core, our focus and our heart. We’re searching for an Executive Director who has experience and passion for the Equine Assisted Services (EAS) industry. The ideal candidate will be open, flexible and have a track record of implementing successful change. This person will need to think strategically and orchestrate our big-picture goals, strengthen our organization and support our mission.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the successful implementation of RMRT’s programs and operations in accordance with its mission, with special emphasis on long range planning, community and donor relationship building, fund raising, fiscal oversight, personnel management, and evaluation and development of programs. The Executive Director reports to the RMRT Board of Directors and provides leadership and support to RMRT’s team (13) and our volunteers (about 150). As the face of RMRT, the Executive Director should have a working knowledge, or be willing to obtain a working knowledge, of RMRT’s programs and the Equine Assisted Services (EAS) industry. The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight, growth and development, and success of RMRT’s programs to ensure achievement of goals, objectives, and a sustainable future.
Partnership with Board of Directors (BOD)
- Lead strategic long term growth and planning in partnership with the BOD
- Support the BOD in its policy oversight functions
- Serve as the staff representative at board meetings
- Provide theBOD with operational reports and general updates
- Assist in recruiting, evaluation, and onboarding new board members
- Ensure the BOD is informed and educated about RMRT’s activities, incidents, and measures of success
- Ensure that requests for BOD assistance and support are communicated effectively
Community Relations and Fundraising
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of grant requests and ensure compliance requirements for awarded funds
- Participate in all fundraising activities and public relations events
- Develop and oversee annual budget in partnership with the BOD
- Identify and and cultivate partnerships with donors to ensure that fundraising relationships are robust enough to support and exceed strategic goals
- Represent RMRT in the community in a professional manner that reflects our programs and mission
Personnel
- Foster, encourage, and mentor a strong, positive team culture that ensures that the RMRT team, volunteers, and participants feel valued and supported and that attracts new team members and volunteers
- Identify, recruit, and onboard new team members
- Organize and lead monthly team meetings
- Oversee and activities of organizational team and initiate disciplinary actions if/when needed
General Administration
- Support and foster growth of current and future programs in conjunction with the Program Manager
- Oversee all property and program operations to ensure risk management and sustainability
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local regulations and PATH Intl. Standards
- Ensure compliance with insurance and all necessary certifications
- Define and implement policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned or needed
Minimum Qualifications
- 3-5 years non-profit program management/leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public policy or similar degree or equivalent experience
- A passion for the therapeutic impact of animal assisted activities
Minimum Competencies
- Experience in developing plans to achieve goals, implementing and evaluating performance
- Ability to foster teamwork, designate duties, meet deadlines, inspire others by example
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals
- Working knowledge of the Boulder County and broader Front Range philanthropic community
- Ability to network to help find continued donors and supporters
- Ability to use and leverage office hardware and software
- Pass background check
Preferred Competencies
- Horse experience
- A network within the Boulder philanthropic community
- Experience in using communication outlets (including social media) for increasing organization awareness
- Experience with media relations
- Public speaking experience
