Temporary Bilingual Social Worker

RMIAN’s Social Service Project (SSP) provides wrap-around support to immigrants and asylum seekers including comprehensive case management and supportive counseling. 

SSP has an opening for a TEMPORARY bilingual social worker to work with clients receiving legal representation through the Detention & Children’s Programs and to support our Social Service Project in resource development and organization.

The current position is for six months in order to provide coverage for a staff social worker on leave. If additional funding is secured, the opportunity for a full-time permanent position may become available.

The ideal candidate:

• Is dedicated to client-centered, trauma-informed and strengths- based social work practice in an interdisciplinary and collaborative setting. 
• Has a strong commitment to honoring the dignity and worth of all, including those who are detained, have criminal legal history, or experience serious mental illness with an ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of clients.
• Demonstrates commitment to antiracism, and promotes justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion on an individual and systemic level. 
• Demonstrates empathy, active listening, and excellent problem-solving abilities, and easily builds trust with clients and colleagues.
• Is team-oriented and works in collaboration with RMIAN staff members, clients, and community partners while also being able to manage casework and deadlines independently.
• Is skilled in developing good organizational systems to track client needs and community resources.
• Is willing and able to perform administrative and clerical tasks necessary to develop and maintain client files and records in an organized manner.

Responsibilities:

• Provide integrated social work accompaniment, including case management and supportive counseling, to support adults in immigration detention, unaccompanied children, and children and families as they navigate their immigration cases and other challenges.
• Demonstrate capacity for trauma-informed analysis, client interviewing skills and high-quality written work that can be applied to documents supporting client release or immigration relief.
• Develop and carry out innovative service delivery including a psychosocial support group for newcomer youth and a social work help desk to support clients and their attorneys. 
• Manage a caseload independently. Track and meet all case deadlines. 
• Help develop and maintain efficient and effective systems for case management, community resource linkage, and documentation.

Required skills and experience:

• MSW preferred. BSW or other BA candidates who have the skills and commitment to carry out position responsibilities will be considered.  Supervision towards MSW and LCSW available.
• Spanish fluency required.
• Deep dedication to racial justice and immigrant justice required, as well as dedication, competency, and willingness to learn and grow in providing services to LGBTQ+ clients, differently abled clients, and all clients across other social differences and histories of oppression and marginalization.
• Experience working in community-based organizations, the nonprofit sector or an immigration legal-setting preferred.
