Education Coordinator

Flexible Contracted Work Hours:

Part-time with the possibility to grow into a full-time position.

Overview:

Through cross-cultural and global lessons, the Mwebaza Foundation inspires global citizenship among children and adults so they may advocate for positive change in their communities. Mwebaza facilitates connections with elementary middle and high schools in Colorado with our four partner schools in Uganda. We are committed to sharing knowledge, experiences, and ideas to create equitable and just school communities.

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant will support educational programming efforts on a part-time/contract basis. The successful candidate will maintain close working relationships with Mwebaza staff, Board, and partner school representatives while supporting the facilitation of Mwebaza’s educational lessons and activities at our partner schools.

Primary Responsibilities:

• This is a semi-remote position that will require frequent attendance for in-school activities and Foundation events.
• This position will work alongside our School Development Director with supervision from our Executive Director.

The Program Assistant will provide strategic assistance on a wide range of projects that may include but are not limited to the following: coordinating logistics and planning for student clubs; creating and presenting updates for students, parents, and staff; managing school and parent-related communications; overseeing and executing school fundraising and educational events; strategizing for increased parent and staff involvement; maintaining relationships with applicable partners and community members; collaborating with partner school staff on various projects and assignments; preparing and instructing cross-cultural exchange and global studies lessons; serving on the Education Committee; and contributing ideas and skills to achieve long-term sustainability of the Mwebaza Foundation mission and vision.

This position may include travel to Uganda to build relationships and collaborate with our partners. Travel costs are covered by the Foundation, and trip frequency is determined by available funds.

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated passion for international collaboration, global education, and cross-cultural alliances
• 3-5 years of teaching experience, including ages 5-12
• Trained in JEDI principals
• Bachelor’s degree
• Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated track record of leading a group and offering instruction
• Ability to simultaneously lead multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time pressure with minimal supervision
• Strong collaboration, time management, and organizational skills
• Work alongside and collaborate with the School Development Director
• Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  

Desired Qualifications:

• Additional Elementary, Middle, or High school teaching experience
• Curriculum Development and/or Lesson Planning Experience

• Be comfortable with responsibilities that range from mundane to complex
• Be committed to and embrace the mission of Mwebaza and must have a passion for the role that education plays in furthering that mission
• Ensure that the very highest levels of integrity are used in the development and presentation of our curriculums
  

Requirements:

Three to five years of related experience. A candidate will have to successfully pass a background check.

Software-related skills:

• High degree of proficiency with technology tools including MSOffice (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.), Canva, etc.
• Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software with basic training, such as Slack and Freedcamp.
