Director of Finance

The Director of Finance will have oversight of all fiscal aspects of the organization including managing the infrastructure, systems, and processes that support Mile High Early Learning’s (MHEL) current and future needs. The Director of Finance will provide fiscal guidance and reasoning to achieve MHEL’s mission and will be essential in strategic planning and program-wide evaluation. The Director of Finance will continue to build and manage effective and streamlined administrative/financial systems, including finance, accounting, and information technology (IT).

Essential Job Functions:

• Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring financial compliance with MHEL, federal, state, and grantor policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

• Maintain robust internal controls and oversee financial, compliance, and regulatory audits.

• Prepare monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for MHEL budget managers, Executive Team, and Board of Directors.

• Maintain records of funding contracts and monitor financial performance on contracts.

• Contribute to budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management for the organization.

• Collaborate with MHEL staff on timely and rigorous completion of grant applications and reporting.

• Manage IT staff and consultants as appropriate to support IT, hardware, and software needs of the staff and MHEL. Track IT inventory and replace equipment according to equipment aging schedule.

• Develop successful and trusting relationships with staff and program participants and create and sustain an environment at MHEL that supports these relationships.

• Ensure finance and IT teams deliver excellent customer service to MHEL staff, including identifying, developing, and implementing new systems that best serve MHEL staff and partners. Support and provide financial guidance to MHEL budget managers. 

Required Position Qualifications I Certifications I Licenses:

• Eight to ten years of accounting/finance professional experience that includes budget development, financial reporting, A/P, A/R, audits, and GAAP compliance

• Proven effectiveness in financial management and accounting 

• Experience with a variety of funding/revenue sources

• Experience supervising/managing others

• Excellent people skills with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.

• Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems 

• Oriented toward process improvement

• Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented 

• Reliable vehicle, valid Colorado driver’s license, evidence of current vehicle insurance meeting the minimum Colorado state liability requirements

• Clearance of CBI and Central Registry check and post-employment physical

Desired Qualifications I Skills I Licenses I Certifications:

• Certified public accountant or BA in accounting, business, fiscal management, or a related field.

• Experience with a multidimensional accounting system. Sage Intacct preferred

• High competency with Microsoft Office.

• Bilingual or basic understanding of Spanish
