Vice President for Envision:You, an Initiative of Mental Health Colorado

Envision:You, an initiative of Mental Health Colorado, the state’s leading advocate for Healthier Minds Across the Lifespan is seeking a Vice President to oversee the initiative’s day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader and coach, capable of working on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels to guide the Envision:You initiative across both programmatic and administrative functions. This individual will bring extensive nonprofit management experience with expertise in community-based programs, education, advocacy, operations, or related fields. The position reports to the Executive Vice President for Community Partnerships and Outreach.

Key performance expectations for this role include leadership and vision, in which the Vice President will inspire and lead the team toward Envision:You’s mission and goals. They will establish a clear strategic direction in collaboration with the leadership team of Mental Health Colorado, foster a positive, inclusive organizational culture, and retain key contributors to organizational goals.

The Vice President will be responsible for overseeing the Envision:You initiative’s financial management, ensuring the efficient use of financial resources while adhering to contracted budgets. They will work with Mental Health Colorado’s development team to achieve fundraising targets and secure grants or donations, all while ensuring transparency and accountability in financial reporting.

The Vice President will oversee program development and impact, effectively designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that align with the mission. They will aim to achieve the objectives with funders while measuring and documenting program outcomes and community impact. Innovation in program design and adaptability to changing needs are essential.

Community engagement and communication will be another key area where the Vice President will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members. They will effectively communicate the division’s goals, achievements, and needs while also responding to feedback and positively representing the organization.

Operational management is critical, with responsibilities including the efficient running of daily operations, task delegation, staff performance management, and professional development promotion. The Vice President will also implement policies and procedures that enhance operational effectiveness.

In strategic planning and execution, the Vice President will develop and implement strategic plans that advance the goals of both Envision:You and Mental Health Colorado. They will set measurable objectives, track progress, and demonstrate flexibility and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges.

Finally, the Vice President will ensure compliance and governance by adhering to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards, implementing best governance practices, and preparing and presenting reports to the senior leadership team.

Specific Responsibilities:

No day is ever alike, but you can generally look forward to the following:

● Work with the leadership team of Mental Health Colorado to support the development and implementation of effective recruiting, retention strategies, training, and professional development of all staff, sustaining an internal culture that promotes initiative, appropriate risk-taking, learning, cooperation, equity, and mutual respect.

● Manage all program staff.

● Oversee programs for Envision:You and evaluate their effectiveness and growth.

● Ensure that job responsibilities are clearly communicated, and duties delegated appropriately among all staff.

● Ensure the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) are embedded in all internal and external communications, programs, and professional development.

● Participate, as assigned, in Mental Health Colorado’s development team effort to monitor and maintain ongoing communications with representatives of supporting funders and donors.

● Work with program staff to determine how efficiencies can be gained through the leveraging of resources, technology, and innovation.

● Lead staff in long-term program planning, establishing outcomes and clear project plans.

● Work with the Mental Health Colorado leadership team to develop and evaluate program strategies and goals.

● Create new or document current programmatic systems and procedures as necessary

to increase consistency among Envision:You programs and campaigns.

● Oversee the process of responding to grant proposals, with a focus on local, state, and federal opportunities. This includes managing the scheduling, preparation, and review of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and periodic reports in collaboration with an external grant writer and the leadership team.

● Optimize operational systems, processes, and policies; management reporting; information

flow; business process improvement; and organizational planning in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer.

● Foster improved collection and use of client and industry data for strategic business

decisions and storytelling.

● Improve coordination and communication across the organization to increase effectiveness

and efficiency.

● Provide coaching and training to encourage staff members to reach long-term professional goals.

● Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth.

● Support fundraising efforts with individual donors and corporate sponsors in partnership with the Director of Development.

● Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

● A minimum of 7 years of operations management experience in a nonprofit environment and a graduate degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred. 10+ years preferred.

● Proven track record of strategic financial management, business strategy, and strategic planning.

● Proven commitment to LGBTQ+ advocacy, health issues, and public health equity efforts.

● An understanding of how trauma impacts traditionally marginalized individuals and communities and

how this influences the design and delivery of programs serving them.

● Ability to manage complex projects.

● Highly skilled at staff management, coaching, and development.

● Experience managing cross-functional teams to develop and implement systems and processes to

increase effectiveness and efficiency.

● Approachable, collaborative, and willing to learn as well as teach.

● Team player capable of working both collaboratively and independently.

● Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and solving complex operational problems.

● Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to generate respect and trust from colleagues, direct

reports, and external constituents.

● Ability to maintain calm and steady during times of crisis or stress.

● Ability to provide long-term, inspirational vision while simultaneously creating pragmatic solutions to

day-to-day problems.
