Maria Droste Counseling Center provides collaborative behavioral health services for community members, regardless of their ability to pay. We partner with other community organizations to bring mental health services to where people already live and receive care, including schools, medical settings, senior living facilities, affordable housing, and family justice centers. Additionally, we provide counseling services to individuals, couples, and families through our traditional outpatient programming. We are a growing, dynamic, evolving workplace and seeking a candidate who is interested in and able to grow with the organization.
Job Summary: This position serves as support for all of MDCC’s clinical training programs, and works closely with the Clinical Director. This position focuses on oversight of MDCC’s internship program, where the organization recruits, trains, and supports masters and doctoral students on a clinical placement with MDCC. The internship program at MDCC is a long-standing and robust program, but is also in constant development and improvement in response to the changing needs of trainees and MDCC. Ongoing investment in relationships with university programs and with supervisors and trainers who offer their time in support of this program are essential, and this position is responsible for management of the internship including holding interns to expectations and supporting and advocating for them. This position will work collaboratively with the program team, supervisors, and larger community at Maria Droste and guide and participate in relevant meetings and training. This position also supports the management team in envisioning the growth and development of clinical training within MDCC in order to support MDCC’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration (50%)
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Director to maintain relationships with stakeholder groups, including university partners, including hosting an annual University Advisory meeting with stakeholders from university partners, clinical supervisors, and funders.
- Lead the MDCC program team in recruiting and onboarding high quality and diverse intern candidates to serve the mission and programs of MDCC and supporting the Clinical Director in recruitment of Fellows and Supervisors.
- Oversee development of interns with a weekly in-service training program, with arising issues, and through routine 1:1 meetings with interns at an appropriate cadence.
- Ensure internship expectations are met, and develop Performance Improvement Plans or other appropriate courses of action to respond to interns who are struggling to meet expectations with the collaboration of the Program Team.
- Support Director of Compliance and Program team in ensuring compliance with documentation and billing standards set by BHA, Medicaid & other payors, and MDCC.
- Manage program team activities as they relate to internship, including collaboration with Program Directors and Managers and oversight of Program Coordinator activities as they pertain to Clinical Training.
- Maintain communication and expectations with clinical Supervisors, keeping them informed of internship timelines and developmental expectations.
- Oversees orientation, clinical training schedule, and end of year celebrations for trainees.
- Support Clinical Director in gathering and reporting clinical training outcomes.
- Support Clinical Director in advertising and recruiting potential fellows from the internship program.
- Support Clinical Director with routine messaging to fellows about support and expectations within the clinical training component of their work.
- Advocate for interns and envision internship opportunities, such as grant funding for students, work-study opportunities, and other avenues that may increase the accessibility of MDCC’s internship program.
- Identify gaps and opportunities to improve the quality of MDCC’s clinical internship program.
Training and Consultation (20%)
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director and Program Team to develop a comprehensive clinical training program for trainees and supervisors.
- Staff and facilitate regular internship groups, and support group supervision for interns when needed.
- Provide direct training for interns in areas of expertise.
- Consultation with Interns and Supervisors with arising concerns and challenges.
Direct Clinical Services and Supervision (30%)
- Possibility for direct services; seeing two to three clients to continue to develop clinical skills.
- Provision of quality, culturally responsive clinical supervision of up to five (5) unlicensed providers or intern trainees.
- Complete timely, accurate, and clear outcome measures and record documentation in EHR in line with compliance policies and procedures.
- Scheduled onsite coverage for clinical crises.
Required Background, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- MA or doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy with licensure in the State of Colorado (LAC, LPC, LCSW, LP, LMFT). LCSWs are strongly encouraged to apply.
- 2-4 years of postgraduate experience, including direct clinical experience with, and training in, diverse and underserved populations.
- Evidence of interest and engagement in DEI work.
- Educational or field experience in training therapists.
- Bilingual ability and candidates with diverse identities.
- Experience in conflict resolution and/or restorative justice practices.
- Experience in nonprofit organizations.
- Experience in management, including setting expectations and maintaining accountability.
- Experience/Strong potential to multitask, organize, work autonomously to develop creative solutions to problems, communicate and teach complex concepts, lead others, and demonstrate flexibility and tolerance of ambiguity in a growing program.
- Commitment and sensitivity to multicultural awareness, humility, and inclusiveness personally, professionally and as an approach to stewarding new clinicians/embedded in the Clinical Training program.
- Passion for working in a non-profit setting, developing new programs and service lines, advancing the mental health services for underserved populations, and flexibility in clinical placement and populations served in order to improve access where needed.
- Commitment to working in the mental health service industry and with underserved and diverse populations.
- Knowledge of administrative/macro abilities and their application, especially as they pertain to program development and evaluation.
- Commitment to advancing curriculum and training for unlicensed clinicians.
