About Denver Kids:
In 1946, Denver Public Schools (DPS) and the Rotary Club of Denver partnered to form Denver Boys with the purpose of providing academic support, mentorship, and job skills for boys who were dropping out of school to work and provide for their families when their fathers did not return from WWII. Denver Girls was founded in 1970 to follow the same academic and mentor support model. In 1993, Denver Kids became the merged entities of Denver Boys and Denver Girls to consolidate programs and funding. In 2019, Denver Kids merged with Denver Urban Scholars, a fellow youth-serving organization committed to serving students facing barriers to high school graduation and educational attainment through mentorship and academic support.
Our unique public/private partnership with DPS continues today. Specializing in Academic & Social-Emotional Advising—a one-to-one, relationship-based, long-term approach dedicated to building character, academic achievement, and positive development of the whole child. Position Summary:
The Development & Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the organization’s development & communications strategies and activities, as well as events. Areas of responsibility include: development reporting and database management, donor acknowledgement and donor cultivation & stewardship activities, 3rd party fundraising activities, annual fundraising event implementation, managing the Young Professionals Council, supporting the execution of the organization’s communications plans, as well as providing grant support and development & administrative logistic support. The position supports the overall development team inclusive of interns, volunteers, internal and external partners, and the CEO. This individual reports to the Donor Relations & Events Manager to support the success of fundraising efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
Development
- Support management of the donor database, including data entry, reporting, maintenance, and analysis to ensure high quality database information.
- Manage multi-year pledge tracking and invoicing.
- Manage the donor appreciation & cultivation processes including thank you letters, notes, cards, etc.
- Serve as a staff liaison to the Young Professionals Council (YPC) by providing guidance and support to YPC. Includes guiding strategic initiatives, attending and providing logistical support for meetings and events, including managing YPC’s involvement in the organization’s fundraising events.
- Includes attending monthly (or more) general and executive committee YPC meetings after hours.
- Development team administration and support (letters, in-kind tracking, office supplies, event logistics support, appeal support)
Events
- Support the coordination and implementation of Denver Kids’ Annual Fundraising Event including but not limited to:
- Assist with fundraising event material logistics.
- Manage guest registration process, donations, purchases, etc. via third-party event online event platforms, and communicating with & tracking sponsors, Table Captains, guests, etc.
- Support the execution and implementation of event video production, speaker coordination, scheduling, site scouting and coordination, and additional logistical support.
- Recruitment and management of event volunteers.
- Support identification and preparation of speakers, including rehearsal.
Project manager for additional 3rd Party and special events:
- Manage coordination and implementation of event timelines, budgets, venue, catering, etc., as necessary.
- Manage event communication, materials, collateral, logistics, and publicity.
- Management and implementation of third-party online event platforms, as necessary.
- Recruitment and management of event volunteers, such as Colfax Marathon runners/fundraisers.
- Analyze various event outcomes for effectiveness and future planning.
- All additional activities required for the successful implementation of in-house and third party events.
Communications
- In partnership with VP of Development and 3rd party consultants, manage the implementation of organizational print and electronic collateral including e-newsletters, brochures, and website.
- Support story collection and storytelling.
- Manage Denver Kids social media presence on various sites, and track engagement over time.
- Oversee communications related third-party vendor contracts, relationships, and product development.
- Support the implementation of various mail, email, and online campaigns appeals.
General
- Adhere to Denver Kids’ Policies and Procedures, inclusive of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) practices, as well as ethical standards of the field.
- Attend program-related events and activities in order to capture stories, photos, videos, etc. to support in the development of stories, videos, and other content.
- Participate as a member of the Inclusivity Committee, if/when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively in a team-based setting.
- Participate in leadership/professional development including on-going training.
- Flexibility to take on or support other responsibilities across the organization.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Effective Event Planner: Proven experience coordinating effective special events and/or fundraisers within the corporate or non-profit sectors, including developing program content. Experience managing volunteers and sponsorship engagement is a plus.
- Dedicated to Data Management: Proven attention to detail and strong data management skills, including ensuring accurate, accessible, and secure data. Demonstrated ability to analyze, organize, and integrate complex data from multiple sources to support decision-making and strategic objectives.
- Organized & Effective: Thrives in an often fast-paced environment, is organized, communicates effectively, balances priorities, displays accountability to self and peers, and provides creativity and resourcefulness.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience.
- Minimum three years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn donor database systems (DonorPerfect Online (DPO) experience preferred).
- Familiarity with or ability to learn third-party event online event platforms (ex: Greater Giving, Rallybound, ColoradoGives.org, etc.).
- Excellent computer skills including Google Suite, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Up to date auto insurance.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred
- Experience working in non-profit development.
- Understanding and knowledge of the Denver metro area philanthropic climate.
Working Conditions
- Some evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
- Ability to transport materials in support of special events.
- Urban city and school district.
- Working with Denver Public School (DPS) students and families who may or may not face circumstances, including but not limited to, poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and immigration.
- Driving to and from schools, events and/or other local entities as necessary.
- Occasionally transport students for Denver Kids events.
