JOB SUMMARY: ABE/ASE Teachers are crucial in providing foundational education to adult students in the criminal justice system seeking to improve their literacy, numeracy, and other basic skills. An employee in this job teaches basic reading, writing, social studies, science, math, and basic computer skills to adults below the 12th-grade level. In addition, this position provides job readiness skills to support employment needs and self-sufficiency.
This position will cover two locations: Lakewood (80214) and Henderson (80640).
ABE/ASE Teacher Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide individualized and multi-level adult basic education (writing, math, language), GED test preparation (literature, writing, social studies, science and math), employment, and basic computer instruction.
Create and develop curriculum, lesson plans, teaching materials, and individualized learning that meet the needs of a diverse student population.
Integrate computer-aided instruction into lessons as appropriate.
Monitor and assess students’ progress regularly.
Independently managing a non-traditional classroom environment.
Problem-solve and handle challenging situations while remaining calm.
Maintain positive communication and interaction with partner facility staff, CEO staff, volunteers, and students.
Collect, record, and maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance and maintain necessary records in LACES database and timely NRS submission.
Assess student progress and provide individualized support and feedback to help students achieve their goals.
Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and trends in adult education.
Provide individualized support and guidance to help students overcome academic and personal barriers to success.
Facilitate student success by helping them to identify and achieve their goals, including obtaining a high school equivalency certificate, transitioning to higher education, or finding meaningful employment.
Job Readiness Lab Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to clients seeking job resources in the computer lab
Assist clients with basic computer skills.
Lead Financial Literacy course for elgible students.
Communicate effectively and proactively with learners and case managers.
Assist in creating resumes and cover letters.
Conduct practice interviews.
Assist students with career exploration and goal setting.
ABE/ASE Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or a related field.
2 years of experience teaching adult learners in a basic education or related setting.
Proficiency in using educational technology and online teaching tools.
Adult Basic Education Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) or willingness to obtain it within two (2) years of hire.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in curriculum development.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans that meet the needs of a diverse student population.
