Social Media Intern – Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center (CALC)

GENERAL:

The Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center (CALC) (www.coagrivoltaic.org) showcases clean energy generation coupled with local food production to inspire and educate our community into taking action to improve land stewardship within solar arrays. CALC is based out of Jack’s Solar Garden, just south of Longmont, Colorado where on-site tours, events, educational opportunities, research projects, and volunteer activities occur. CALC is a Project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (CNDC) that is dedicated to fostering a healthy and vibrant nonprofit sector in Colorado by enhancing the effective and efficient use of community resources. CNDC values partnerships, respect, accountability, innovation, and letting learning guide our work. CNDC provides comprehensive fiscal sponsor services to emerging and transitioning charitable groups (“Project”) serving their communities in areas as varied as education, arts, human services, and public health. CALC is one of these projects.  

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Social Media Intern’s (Intern) main role is creating, enhancing, scheduling, and disseminating social media content on behalf of CALC. This will require the Intern to learn about agrivoltaics to understand the important aspects of CALC’s work to highlight. The Intern will sift through existing photos and videos of Jack’s Solar Garden and CALC’s work to create new social media content. The Intern will be required to attend events and make visits to Jack’s Solar Garden (Longmont, Colorado) to work with the CALC team to create new social media content.

The Intern will be expected to follow the 50/30/20 rule in social media content strategy:

● 50%: Value-driven content that educates or entertains your audience

● 30%: Curated content that shares third-party articles, videos, or infographics

● 20%: Promotional content that highlights CALC activities

The Intern will be in charge of updating and managing the CALC/Jack’s Solar Garden Instagram account, the corresponding Facebook page, and a TikTok account. 

The purpose of this role is to increase CALC’s presence and online engagement keeping our mission of agrivoltaic awareness, education, and inspiration at the forefront of content creation.  

A successful Intern will have superb video and photo editing skills, be skilled in cultivating followers to CALC’s social media, and use critical thinking skills to monitor created content to ensure it follows CALC’s principles and goals.

Work hours are flexible (day/evening; weekday/weekend) though should be agreed upon with the Intern’s direct supervisor. It is expected that a set number of hours of work be done each week and along with an agreed upon amount of digital content creation / dissemination. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• 40% – Utilizing existing videos and photos to create new social media content

• 30% – Creating videos and photos to build out into social media content  

• 10% – Scheduling / disseminating social media content  

• 10% – Learning about agrivoltaics

• 10% – Joining team meetings and travel 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrable experience in creating social media content for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.  

• Clear experience in being able to develop a following of 5k+ people.

• Excellent writing and photo + video editing skills.  

• The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.  

• A self-starter – this is an independent & flexible role in both workload & time.  

• First-class organizational skills.  

• A strong ethical code.  

• Maintain a positive attitude and be open to feedback.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Fluent in English and Spanish.

• Clear experience being able to develop a following of 20k. 

• Teaching or community organizing experience. 

• Farming or ranching experience.
