Summary of Job Duties:

community. Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL) – the pro bono program of the Denver
Bar Association is searching for a Staff Attorney to provide direct civil legal
services on family law matters to survivors of domestic violence. Under the
direct supervision of the Director and/or Manager, the attorney will provide
direct legal services to victims of crime using a continuum of services from
assistance during walk-in clinics, to unbundled services in consultation
clinics, and full representation of clients. The attorney will develop their
legal skills in family law by engaging in substantive work under the mentorship
of the Director of MVL, various attorneys on staff, and mentors in the
community selected from MVL’s extensive volunteer panel. The attorney will also
assist victims with applying for victim compensation and by providing referrals
to other victim service programs, when appropriate, and to support services,
including victim advocacy, counseling, emergency assistance, and the address
confidentiality program.
Duties &
Responsibilities
· The Crime Victim attorney will
provide direct legal assistance through full representation on family law
matters, including dissolution of marriage (divorce), allocation of parental
responsibilities (custody), and post decree matters.
· In addition to full representation services,
the VOCA attorney will also provide direct legal assistance through
limited scope and unbundled services via MVL clinics: Family Law Court Program
(FLCP), Family Law Advice and Guidance Program (FLAG) and the Denver Indian
Center Clinic (DIC).
Job Qualifications:
1. At minimum, applicants must be law school graduates with a Juris
Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in the state of Colorado.
2. Ideal candidates will have family law
experience, but new attorneys and those without family law experience are
encouraged to apply as well.
3. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to civil
legal aid and public service during law school or in their career.
4. Excellent written, oral, and listening
communication skills.
5. Excellent organizational skills.
6. Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and database
platforms.
