Senior Manager of Culinary/Head Chef

 POSITION SUMMARY 

  

Mission of Organization: The mission of Coal Creek Meals on
Wheels is to support independence and quality of life for Lafayette,
Louisville, Erie & Superior residents by providing nutritious meals and
social contact.
 

  

This position contributes to the
Mission as follows: The Head Chef/Senior Manager of Culinary is responsible for
leading the culinary operations at Coal Creek Meals on Wheels, ensuring
high-quality, nutritious meals are prepared daily. This role oversees the
kitchen team, manages food inventory, ensures compliance with food safety
standards, and maintains budgetary controls. The Head Chef collaborates with
the leadership team to support organizational goals, optimize meal production
processes, and innovate menu offerings that align with client needs. A passion
for service, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering
exceptional food quality are essential for success in this role.
 

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Plans and prepares nutritious and
appealing meals in accordance with CCMOW’s policies and Procedures.
 

Manages, trains, and mentors kitchen
staff.
 

Serves as a member of the CCMOW
Leadership Team to provide guidance and insight into kitchen operations and
needs as appropriate.
 

Plan menus in advance, using creativity
and client feedback to ensure meal variety
 

Ensures that all meal components are
prepared on schedule for meal packing and Cafe service.
 

Conducts kitchen inventory as
appropriate.
 

   Manages vendor orders and conducts
price comparisons for food, kitchen supplies, containers, and equipment based
on operational needs and budget.
 

Facilitates repair and maintenance of
all kitchen and Cafe equipment.
 

Accept and plan for the effective use
of donated products
 

Manages COGS budget 

Modifies recipes to meet the dietary
needs of clients with specific restrictions
 

Manages the hiring process, onboarding,
ongoing training, and evaluation of kitchen staff
 

Conducts regular meetings with the
kitchen team to share feedback, and discuss operational changes and best
practices
 

Plans and prepares menus for catering
and other special events
 

Maintains high standards of sanitation
and safety in food preparation and appropriate storage as set by the health
department
 

Ensures the organization of storage and
refrigeration spaces
 

Manages a cleaning schedule for
kitchen, storage, and Cafe spaces
 

Creates a positive experience for
volunteers by planning tasks, clear communication, and ongoing training and
support
 

Participate in regular staff meetings,
committee meetings, trainings, and special events
 

Develops and maintains processes and
procedures
 

Commits to ongoing learning and process
improvement
 

Other duties as assigned 

  

Ideal Qualifications:  

At least two years of supervisory
experience
 

Meals on Wheels experience 

Formal Culinary training is highly
desirable.
 

ServSafe Food Management certification
within three months of hire
 

Knowledgeable in recipe conversions;
ability to use ingredients to their full yield and reduce waste
 

Effective organizational, problem
solving, and time management skills; ability to learn and incorporate new ideas
into daily operations
 

Effective oral and written
communication skills
 

Passion for the organization’s mission
and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with a dynamic team
 

Must be physically able to lift 30
pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
 

Able to bend and reach, stand for
prolonged periods, and work in a fast paced environment
 

Basic computer skills: word processing
software, web-based applications, and email
 

Positive attitude, good people skills,
and demonstrated teamwork
 

Sense of humor and grace under pressure Must be able to comply with background check
