Volunteer Coordinator

Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Peer Coordinator Program Manager

Status: Hourly, Full Time – 32 hours per week

Overview: Child Advocates – Denver CASA advocates for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect by training diverse volunteers who create opportunities for children, youth and families to thrive. Denver CASA trains and supervises Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteers who work with children and youth who have been abused and neglected and have a child welfare case open.  

Purpose: The Volunteer Coordinator manages the application, screening and retention of volunteers in activities including onboarding, data maintenance and retention efforts as well as providing overall administrative support to the organization.

 MAJOR DUTIES: 

• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Manager and Training Program Manager to support volunteer onboarding, track conversion and retention rates, and recommend improvements to recruitment and retention strategies
• Manage the full volunteer application process, including screening, interviews, and final placement 
• Oversee volunteer background checks in compliance with National CASA Standards and applicable laws, maintaining strict confidentiality 
• Communicate with applicants and stakeholders to clarify information and ensure accuracy
• Maintain organized and confidential background check files, both digital and physical
• Develop and implement volunteer appreciation and recognition programs to enhance volunteer satisfaction and retention 
• Plan and coordinate volunteer appreciation events, recognition ceremonies, and ongoing appreciation initiatives (e.g., monthly spotlights, thank-you letters, social media recognition)
• Maintain a database of volunteer milestones, anniversaries, and achievements for recognition purposes
• Continuously assess and improve volunteer retention and appreciation strategies. 
• Perform general office and administrative duties, including data entry, filing, and responding to inquiries. 
• Propose and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree or higher preferred, High School Diploma or GED required. 
• 2 years office work experience required 
• Knowledge of federal fingerprinting, background checks, and state child abuse and neglect registry processes preferred 
• Experience and prior success communicating with and empowering volunteers from diverse backgrounds 
• Prior interviewing experience helpful 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
•  Strong computer skills including expertise in Microsoft Suite, Adobe, and CRM databases
• Ability to work independently with little supervision 
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to prioritize
