Bikes Together Truck Driver
Position Title: Bikes Together Truck Driver
Hours: 4-6 hours per week
Pay: $20
Schedule: year-round, negotiable and flexible, Wednesday or Thursday preferred
Purpose: Keep the flow of bike scrap and retail donations efficiently moving though our shopReports to: Operations Director
Bikes Together is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes equitable access to bikes and bike education through a variety of recycling and education programs and a social enterprise retail shop. We’ve been operating in Denver, CO since 2008.
Bikes Together is excited to meet our new Truck Driver! This role is responsible for doing a truck run using our organizational truck at least 1x per week (and potentially 2x per week in the summer). Truck runs involve loading and taking unusable scrap bikes and parts to the nearby metal recycling center, bringing bikes and parts to be refurbished to our refurb mechanic at the annex in Park Hill and bringing repaired bikes back to our shop location.
This is a part-time position (4-6 hours/week) and reports to the Operations Director.
Bikes Together is currently staffed by an Executive Director, full-time Operations Director, full-time Sales Manager, full-time Service Manager, full-time Programs Manager, full-time Refurbished Bike Mechanic, and 4 part-time Instructors and Mechanics. Current employees work as a team with an education and equity focus. The current Board of Directors includes long-time volunteers, mechanics, instructors, and community advocates, and is 80% women/intersex/gender diverse (TWIG) and 40% Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).
Truck Driver Responsibilities
Helps us maintain our bike donations by keeping the flow of bikes moving smoothly through our small shop.
- General Shop Responsibilities (10%)
- Help volunteers and program participants conform to shop cultural norms (strive to be feminist, anti-racist, cross-class, and learning-focused) and navigate potential conflict when in the shop
- Encourage visitors to collaborate and donate
- Promote & explain our education & recycling programs to visitors, especially to people who are eligible for affinity- or identity-based programs like Gender Equality Mechanics
- Maintain clean & organized workspace, storage areas, and bathrooms
- Truck Driving Responsibilities (60%)
- Bring bikes designated as scrap to the metal recycling center,
- Maintain records of amount of materials donated
- Refurbished Bike Inventory Management (20%)
- Transfer broken, donated bikes to our Park Hill refurbishment center and back to our Mariposa location once completed and repaired
- Create and maintain inventory of completed bikes, parts to order, and parts transported in collaboration with Operations Director and Refurbished Bike Mechanic
- Facilities and Truck Maintenance (10%)
- Take truck into auto mechanic shop for general maintenance occasionally in coordination with supervisor
- Fill gas tank and file receipts
- Perform bi-weekly cleaning shift at Park Hill refurbishment center
Preferred skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Enthusiasm for creating a welcoming, accessible bike culture
- Good driving record
- Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
- De-escalation and conflict management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Experience or ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultural identities, lived experiences, economic means
- Familiarity with Lightspeed Point of Sale System and Google Suite a plus
- Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish/English preferred, Arabic, Somali, French, Vietnamese)
- Previous bike shop experience, basic bike mechanic/maintenance skills, or interest in learning
