Position Summary
Reporting to the School & Community Programs Manager, this hourly position serves as the
facilitator of arts workshops on behalf of the School & Community Programs division of the
Arvada Center. Teaching Artists conduct arts workshops based on provided curriculum to
students Pre-K – 6th grade. These workshops are available to students as outreach programs at
schools, libraries, camps and other offsite locations as well as on-site at the Arvada Center at
variable times Monday – Friday usually between the hours of 8:30 am – 6:00 pm. Scheduling is
very flexible and work hours are variable.
Responsibilities
Instruct arts workshops according to the Arvada Center’s prefabricated lesson plans and
predetermined curriculum both at the Arvada Center and off-site locations in the community
Serve as sole instructor for each, 1-hour arts workshop for groups of 10 – 30 students
Arrive 10-15 minutes before each workshop is scheduled to begin in order to prepare
materials and review lesson plans
Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings, including professional
development trainings
Communicate with School Programs Coordinator in a timely manner on availability and
schedule
Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule, approximately 2- 15 hours per month
Other reasonable duties as assigned
Skills and Competencies
Exhibit strong organization and communications skills, reliability, and flexibility
Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, patrons, and
general public in a cooperative and positive manner as a representative of the Arvada Center
Moderate physical activity including walking and occasional lifting when transporting supplies
needed for off-site programs
Must possess prior teaching experience (informal or classroom) and enjoy working with
children
Experience working with Pre-K and Elementary students required
Applicants should be highly organized communicators, reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic about
arts education
A passion for creativity, ability to focus on process over product, and a strong understanding of
the social-emotional needs of children ages 4-10
Basic knowledge of a single or variety of art forms (visual, drama, music, etc.), teaching, and
classroom management techniques
Bilingual English and Spanish fluency
