The American Indian College Fund (College Fund) strives to positively impact the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives by supporting their education and career pathways. College Fund team members believe education is the answer, and collectively we raise funds to holistically support the success of Native students and tribal communities.

The primary purpose of this position is to secure resources necessary for organizational programming and operations by translating programmatic concepts into compelling, successful grant proposals, reports, and collateral. This position is responsible for researching, soliciting, and stewarding relationships representing a significant portion of the organization’s fundraising portfolio and for maintaining systems that support grants development. This position requires proposal and report writing, impact data gathering and analysis, institutional prospect research, and collateral development and ensures grant administration in alignment with funder requirements.

Essential Job Functions

1. Develops proposals for major donors and strategic partners

• Analyzes donor and organization objectives, gathers data, and leads collaboration across departments to write persuasive proposals for a diverse portfolio of donors and donor prospects
• Advises program development using knowledge of grants, donor relationships and requirements, and organizational capacity and strategy
• Recommends strategies for fundraising negotiations and cultivation to secure significant gifts

2. Develops major donor reports and ensures successful grant administration

• Assesses donor relationships and organizational strategy, gathers and analyzes impact data, and leads collaboration across departments to write compelling grant reports that demonstrate funding impact
• Monitors proposal process and ensures successful grant administration in alignment with funder requirements and outcomes necessary for donor stewardship and continued funding
• Makes recommendations for program implementation and reporting strategies for grants stewardship

3. Develops collateral and conducts research for fundraising efforts

• Conceptualizes and develops strategic collateral to steward donors and donor prospects
• Gathers data on best practices and research for use in donor cultivation, grant writing, and reporting
• Researches foundation and corporate donor prospects
• Conducts institutional prospect research to identify and qualify potential foundation and corporation major donors

Job Requirements

Required Competencies:

• Excellent writing and editing skills

• Ability to assess donor relationships and organizational strategy and capacity
• Aptitude for storytelling using both qualitative and quantitative data
• Ability to independently solve problems and complete projects with minimal oversight
• Strong research and data gathering expertise
• Experience with project management and associated tools
• Ability to collaborate and work well within a diverse team and across departments
• Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, organize, and meet deadlines

Preferred Competencies:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with CRM and programs databases
• Experience with a variety of grants management software
• Knowledge of and/or experience with American Indian and Alaska Native education
• Demonstrated cultural competency and relational intelligence in working with diverse teams
• Familiarity with national philanthropic sector and understanding of concepts and trends within philanthropy

Education/ Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 4+ years of related fundraising experience, preferably in grants development, administration, and reporting

Work Environment:

• Traditional office setting
• Some hybrid and/or remote work potential with remote office space required
• Up to 15% travel may be required 

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent keyboarding
• Lifting up to 25 pounds. 

Supervisory Responsibility:

• No supervisory responsibilities
