Development and Communications Coordinator

Pay Range: $24-$27 per hour, based on qualifications and experience

Organization Description

The Center on Colfax opened in 1976 has grown to become the largest LGBTQ community center in the Rocky Mountain region, giving voice to Colorado’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community and playing a pivotal role in statewide initiatives to reduce harassment and discrimination. Today we are focused on fulfilling our mission by ensuring that every member of the LGBTQ community has access to the programs and resources they need to live happy, healthy, and productive lives.

General Description

The Development and Communications Coordinator is a full-time, nonexempt, hourly position working 40 hours a week that supports the day-to-day operations of the Development and Communications department at The Center on Colfax. As the Development and Communications Coordinator, you will assist the development and communications team in implementing strategies to improve and streamline organizational communications and fundraising. This role will be working in and reporting on our contact database as it pertains to communications, contact information, and constituent interactions with the organization; tracking and acknowledging donations; supporting organizational events; and performing the clerical and administrative functions relating to development activities. With support from The Center’s Director of Events, this person will support peer-to-peer fundraising, third-party fundraising, and act as direct support for Denver Pride during May and June.

Duties and Responsibilities

Database and Portal Management

· Maintains donor database/files with detail, coding and entering donations daily. Also responsible for tracking pledges, in-kind contributions, and restricted gifts.

· Processes gifts and pledges with accuracy and timeliness.

· Processes monthly sustainer gifts from credit cards and assists donors with processing their gifts.

· Prepares donation reports for VP of Development and Communication and senior staff members.

· Manages and updates all giving profiles and certifications for Community Shares, Colorado Gives Day, social media pages, and others.


· Supports all direct mail, email/online, and phone campaigns.

· Supports, reports on, and acknowledges peer-to-peer fundraising (i.e. Denver Pride 5k) and third-party fundraising (i.e. another company/organization raising money to support The Center on Colfax).

Donor Engagement

· Prepares thank you letters to all donors for CEO signature as directed by VP of Development and Communications.

· Monitors the coordination of thank-you touch points for Center staff and board.

· Acts as customer service representative for The Center with gift processing and the annual Denver Pride 5K.

· Assists the VP of Development and Communications with the organizing of all VIP events.

· Manages ticket sales and guest lists for the annual gala.

Board of Directors Support

· Assists with board meetings and takes minutes.

· Supports board communications, paperwork distribution, and filing.

· Collect RSVPs for all board activities and board-related events.

· Supports board meetings and committee meetings.

· Assists the board in developing invitation lists for board fundraising events.


· Assists the communications team with scheduling, distribution, and CSR.

· Prepares email target lists and manages email communication subscriptions.

· Assists with scheduling social media posts and email sends.

· Monitors, forwards and/or responds to general public inquiries on social media platforms and Development inbox.


· 2+ years administrative or customer service experience.

· Experience working in a CRM database (data entry and reporting data).

· Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook.

· Personal commitment to, and working knowledge of, the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

· Willingness to work as part of a collaborative team.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member.

· Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

· Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

· Effective communication skills with internal and external audiences.

· Comfort working with confidential financial and personal information.

· Ability to pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

· Bilingual in Spanish language, preferred.

· Professional experience supporting the LGBTQ community, preferred.

Working Conditions

· Occasional weekend work required for program events.

· Work in a collaborative, fast paced and continually evolving professional environment.

· Work in hybrid, physical and virtual, environment, as necessary.

· Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation.

· Frequent giving, receiving, and analyzing of information.

· Frequent use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and video conference equipment and software.

· Must be available to work PrideFest typically on the fourth weekend every June, as well as the weeks before and after.
