Position Overview: The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the Adam’s Camp organization. This role is responsible for managing the financial health of the organization, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to support our mission and goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit finance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Develop and oversee financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Manage all organization financial functions (AP/AR; payroll; taxes; camp & contract billing; reconciliations, cash management)
- Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.
- Work closely with families to help identify external funding sources as well as Adam’s Camp Scholarship opportunities
- Oversee administrative functions and continue developing policies to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization scales.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Monitor and report on budget performance, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
- Develop financial forecasts and scenario analyses to support strategic planning.
- In partnership with ED, spearhead annual budgeting and planning process administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
Communication
- Oversee the financial aspects of grant management, including budgeting and proper allocation and tracking of grant funds.
- Further develop Adam’s Camps human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, track compensation, and benefits.
- Effectively communicate and present financial matters to the Board of Directors.
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Coordinate annual audits and implement audit recommendations.
- Maintain appropriate internal controls and safeguards for receipts and disbursements.
- Manage organizational insurance policies and risk management efforts.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
Strategic Planning and Advising:
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Support fundraising efforts with financial analysis and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit financial management.
- Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
